Capital One® is a Fortune 500 company, a diversified bank that offers a broad array of financial products and services to consumers, small businesses and commercial clients in the U.S., Canada and the UK, and one of America's top 10 largest banks based on deposits.
Capital One also is a strong, proactive supporter of diversity in our various communities and within the company. An essential part of our business philosophy is to bring together associates with diverse perspectives, backgrounds and experiences.
This sort of diversity produces fresh thinking that drives innovation and solves business problems. It shapes our view of the world and reflects the customers and communities we serve. Diversity goes beyond race, age and gender to include ethnicity, nationality, culture, sexual orientation, religion, physical ability, demographics, philosophy, and style. At Capital One, we believe the best people come in all varieties, and the differences we bring to the workplace make us a better company.
Our diversity efforts focus on all aspects of the associate experience, from recruitment to development to retention and recognition. And we extend our emphasis on diversity beyond our company, to ensure we have diversity in our suppliers.
At Capital One, we believe that diversity goes beyond race, age and gender to include ethnicity, nationality, culture, accent, sexual orientation, gender identity, religion, education, physical ability, age, demographics, philosophy and style. Needless to say, the best people come in all varieties.
Diversity at Capital One is about putting our differences to work to add value to our business. We strive to recruit, retain, develop and promote the best, most qualified people in the world.
Our diversity efforts focus on all aspects of the associate experience, from recruitment to development to retention and recognition. And we extend our emphasis on diversity beyond our company, to ensure we have diversity in our suppliers.
One of Capital One’s corporate imperatives is to recruit great people and give them the opportunity to be great, and we incorporate diversity principles in our recruiting programs. Our 2011 Diversity Recruiting program hosted and/or participated in a total of 50 diversity-related events/initiatives and partnered with numerous associations and organizations.
This ongoing process has active involvement from leaders and managers, who work with our diversity team to identify high-performing associates, monitor those in stretch roles to ensure comprehensive development strategies are in place, and consult on promotion nominations.
Capital One continues to celebrate diversity internally by promoting participation in Associate Networks, and by making our company a truly great place to work.
Our Associate Networks support Capital One’s inclusive culture and diverse population. In addition to recruiting top talent, these groups offer programs, resources and tools that enable our diverse associates to achieve their full potential. They also serve to engage and create awareness among all associates across the organization. Each network offers its members distinct opportunities for development, mentoring, networking, and community service. Plus, each network annually celebrates its heritage during a designated month of activities–showcasing its accomplishments and sharing its culture, history, food and traditions.
Currently more than 9,000 associates participate in one of our associate networks: African American, Asian, Women’s, LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bi-sexual, Transgender), and Hispanic.
In addition, Capital One has a number of Connection Groups that support our growing diverse population. These groups connect associates so that they may share learnings, tools, and resources in order to achieve their full potential in an environment that values the differences we bring to the workplace.
Our Capital One culture is built on a set of shared Values that are our guiding principles. These Values - Excellence and Do The Right Thing - are our anchors and do not change over time. They drive how we work together, make decisions, innovate, and better serve our customers.
Excellence...defines the way we at Capital One perform as individuals, teams and an organization. Our Excellence Value is defined by five attributes: Best People, Strategically Bold, Intellectually Rigorous, Well-Managed and Ownership.
Do the Right Thing...describes how we interact with each other and our customers.
