President Obama recently signed legislation authorizing the continuation of federal unemployment extension benefits through the end of 2012. This extension however is enforcing a new requirement. For those currently receiving, unemployment you will soon receive a letter advising you to report on a particular day and time for a mandatory REA session. If you ignore this appointment your benefits will be interrupted. In order to continue to receive unemployment benefits all unemployed must report in-person to your local American Job Center on the date and time listed on your letter.
For those receiving unemployment benefits the mandatory session will include skills assessments, orientation of services provided at local American Job Centers current labor market information for your area and more to help prepare individuals to return to work. When you attend these sessions the most important thing to bring with you will be your weekly work job search. All of those receiving unemployment should be applying for at least 2 jobs per week and keeping a detailed log of this job search effort. If you have not been looking for work because of some documented reason, such as illness you need to notify your American Job Centers. You are not supposed to claim benefits if you are not actively seeking work, so illness and other documented reasons will stop your benefits until you are able to work.
The session will also focus on current labor market information for your area. You might find that your work as a secretary is out of date, however, a medical secretary is in high demand. Focusing on those industries that are in high demand and transferring your skills might help you gain employment.
Again if you meet the following criteria please don't miss this appointment:
